The OPENVERSE Observatory has launched an interactive Technology Radar that shows how companies, experts, case studies and initiatives across Europe map onto the XR and Virtual Worlds taxonomy. Open to all, without registration, it offers a structured view of where the ecosystem stands today.
The Technology Radar is the newest addition to the OPENVERSE Observatory, the open database of organisations, experts, case studies, national initiatives and regulatory sandboxes active in the European XR and Virtual Worlds space.
Rather than presenting entities as a flat list, the Radar organises them against the OPENVERSE Taxonomy, the classification framework developed collectively by the project consortium to structure XR and Virtual Worlds topics across technological, economic and policy dimensions. For each topic, the tool shows how many entities in the Observatory database are tagged against it, and how deeply that topic is represented, using three levels: Adopt, Grow and Explore.
Three visualisation modes are available: Radar, Bubble, and Matrix, each offering a different lens on the same underlying data. Filters allow users to narrow the view by taxonomic category and by content type, including companies, experts, case studies, analyses, Virtual World platforms, national initiatives and regulatory sandboxes, before drilling down into the entities tagged on any given topic.
For policymakers, the Radar offers a way to identify which areas of the XR and Virtual Worlds space are already well documented in the Observatory and which remain thinly covered, helping to inform where further research or engagement may be needed. For researchers and industry professionals, it provides a structured entry point into the Observatory’s growing dataset, connecting taxonomy topics directly to the organisations, people and initiatives working on them.
The Radar is a public tool, accessible without registration. Anyone can explore its three views, apply filters and examine tagged entities. Users who create a free account gain access to further Observatory features, including the full list of XR experts, a matchmaking function that surfaces relevant peers based on expertise offered or sought, and an integrated messaging system to contact experts directly.
