OPENVERSE partners will be hosting a workshop on 24th April titled “National Initiatives and Virtual Worlds Partnership.” The event aims to serve as a platform for discussing how national-level projects can align with the newly established European Partnership on Virtual Worlds. It will also highlight how OPENVERSE can offer some support.

Virtual Worlds are transforming the way people connect, learn, work, and drive innovation. Across Europe, various national initiatives have emerged to support the development and use of Virtual World technologies. The Virtual Worlds landscape remains fragmented, and there is a stronger collaboration and community-building to maximize the collective impact of these efforts.

In July 2023, the European Commission introduced its strategy on Web4.0 and Virtual Worlds, aiming to guide the next wave of technological progress while ensuring a digital environment that is open, secure, trustworthy, fair, and inclusive for EU citizens, businesses, and public institutions. A central element of this strategy is the proposed Partnership on Virtual Worlds, designed to promote research excellence and shape an industrial and technological roadmap for the future of these immersive technologies. European Partnerships bring together the European Commission and key stakeholders to address Europe’s most pressing challenges through joint research and innovation efforts. Since 2023, significant progress has been made in shaping the European Partnership for Virtual Worlds.

This workshop aims to explore and connect various Virtual Worlds initiatives across European member states, fostering a better understanding of national efforts while strengthening collaboration at both national and EU levels. By encouraging dialogue and coordination, the workshop seeks to maintain momentum and support the development of joint projects and long-term cooperation in the Virtual Worlds space.
